Lorain celebrates Fourth of July with gatherings, fireworks | Lifestyle

The City of Lorain celebrated the nation’s birthday on July 4 with a colorful fireworks display set off from the mile long pier.

Around the city residents celebrated Independence Day with togetherness, friends and family in the spirit of the International City with gatherings taking place at Lakeview Beach, Lakeside Landing and other spots near Lake Erie.

The annual display hosted by the Lorain Port and Finance Authority inspired memories and comes as the city and state have reopened following last year’s display under restrictions due to the novel coronavirus.

Lorain Port and Finance Authority Executive Director Tom Brown hadn’t quite decided where he was going to take in the display prior to sunset, but was excited with what was to come.

“Looking forward to seeing what American Fireworks brings this year.  They always bring some new colors or shapes so excited to see what is in store tonight,” Brown said.

Max Schaefer, executive director of Main Street Lorain, added that the fireworks were another amazing opportunity for people to experience what the International City has to offer, with downtown booming.

“I’m really excited that we have so many great options to view the fireworks in downtown and on our waterfront. Any number of restaurant patios, the hotel rooftop, Lakeview Beach, and even the lighthouse. There’s a spot for everyone!”
