The Arizona Rattlers will play the Strike Force in San Diego on Monday in an Indoor Football League game.
Rattlers (1-0) at San Diego Strike Force (0-1), Monday, 7:05 p.m., at Pechanga Arena, YouTube
San Diego’s franchise was dormant last season as the IFL restarted after canceling the 2020 season due to the pandemic. The Strike Force opened with a 38-33 loss on the road to the Bay Area Panthers in San Jose. San Diego led for all but five minutes of that game. The Rattlers are coming off a 50-28 home win over the Duke City Gladiators. Former Chandler High defensive back Kyree Woods was named the IFL Defensive Player of the Week, after playing his first professional game for the Rattlers. Now he comes back to where he played his college ball, at San Diego State. Devontae Merriweather was named the IFL Special Teams Player of the Week, after taking back an on-side kick 12 yards for a touchdown. Former Northern Arizona Wranglers WR Todd Athey, who played in the second half, had two touchdown catches in his Rattlers debut. He played part of last season at Louisville in the IFL and made the all-rookie team.
Coach Kevin Guy: “We’re going to keep the focus on us. It’s about us. It’s early in the season. We’re looking to get better week to week.”
