In 2018, Federer signed a 10-year, $300 million sponsorship deal with Uniqlo.
At the time, some were surprised by Federer’s decision to ditch Nike and sign a sponsorship with another clothing brand. When Federer signed that deal with Uniqlo, it was clear that he would be well-retired when his deal expires.
Federer, who retired from professional tennis at the Laver Cup in late September, still has his commitments to Uniqlo and Japanese tennis fans will have a chance to see him at a Uniqlo event next months.
Federer hinted he may play in exhibitions
Federer’s farewell at the Laver Cup drew lots of attention as The O2 Arena was sold out for his final match.
Throughout his entire career, London was a very special place for Federer. In London, Federer became a Grand Slam champion and he is now a record eight-time Wimbledon champion and a true icon at The Championships. After playing the final match of his career, Federer vowed to stay connected to tennis and hinted he may play exhibitions in the future.
“The message from me was just making sure I relay my passion for the sport to the fans, and I let them know that hopefully we’ll see each other again on a different type of tennis court,” Federer said in London.
“I have no plans whatsoever, where, how, when. All I know, I would love to go and play places I have never played before or go say thank yous for years to come to all the people that have been so supportive of me. Because the hard part about the Laver Cup was that tickets were already sold out.
You know, the people who maybe would have also loved to be here couldn’t make it. Maybe there is another way down the stretch we can party all together”.
